The history

The area of Mesogaia is very much a part of the Μediterranean world in terms of environment and agriculture, as shown by the profusion of fig and olive trees and the extensive planting of vines. The construction of the new Athens airport in Spata though, had an impact on the agricultural character of the area, and many farmers had to reestablish their activity to other cultivating lands near or far. The first houses of the city of Spata were built on a hill overlooking the fields and the sea from where pirates and other enemies were likely to appear.

The building at Fragou Estate, which belongs to this era, is almost 150 years old today. It is one of the few specimen of this type of architecture in the greater area of Mesogaia. During the guided tour at Fragou Estate a gallery of old family photos showing images of harvesting olive trees and vines, traditional weddings and local open air festivals is presented to the guests offering them a glimpse to the rich culture and tradition of Mesogaia.
